Supporting the Organizations
That Support Our Communities.
The MAJ Technology Solutions Community Engagement Program is an invitation-based initiative created to support nonprofit, community, educational, and faith-based organizations through practical technology education, guidance, and shared expertise.
Organizations doing meaningful work in their communities should have access to technology knowledge and guidance that helps make that work a little easier. Through the Community Engagement Program, MAJ Technology Solutions contributes time, experience, and practical support to selected organizations whose work strengthens the people and communities around them.
Technology should make it easier to serve people well.
For many community-focused organizations, technology is essential to the work — but it is rarely the work itself. Staff members are focused on programs, people, education, outreach, services, and the day-to-day responsibilities that keep an organization moving. Technology should support that mission, not compete with it.
Good organizations should not have to struggle with technology just to do good work.
Share What We Know
Experience has greater value when it can be shared. CEP gives MAJ Technology Solutions a structured way to contribute practical technology knowledge to organizations serving their communities.
Reduce Everyday Friction
Sometimes a little guidance, a better understanding of a tool, or a fresh look at a process can remove frustrations that have quietly become part of everyday work.
Strengthen the Mission
When technology works better for the people using it, organizations can spend more of their time and energy on the people, programs, and communities they exist to serve.
The Community Engagement Program is not built around selling technology. It is built around sharing experience, providing useful support, and creating an opportunity for organizations to benefit from practical knowledge that may help them work more confidently and effectively.
Practical help shaped around the needs of the organization.
Participating organizations may receive support through either a focused learning experience or a practical technology conversation. The goal is not to introduce more technology, but to help people use what they have more effectively and make better-informed decisions about what comes next.

Simple, personal, and centered on your organization.
The Community Engagement Program is intentionally uncomplicated. There is no application process and no lengthy assessment. It begins with an invitation and a conversation about what would be most useful to your organization.
An Invitation
MAJ Technology Solutions identifies organizations whose work aligns with the spirit of the Community Engagement Program and extends an invitation to participate.
A Conversation
We spend a little time learning about the organization, its people, and where practical training or technology guidance could be most useful.
The Engagement
Together, we settle on the focus and schedule the session. MAJ then provides the training or consultation either on-site or remotely, with the time centered on the organization’s needs.
That’s the program. There is no fee for the engagement and no requirement to purchase services afterward. The goal is simply for the organization to come away from the experience with something useful.
It started with a conversation.
Long before it had a name, the idea behind the Community Engagement Program began with a simple encounter between two people talking about organizations, communities, and the challenges of doing meaningful work with limited resources.
The beginning of an approach to community engagement that would continue for years.
At an event addressing homelessness in Delaware, MAJ Technology Solutions founder Michael James met the executive director of Connecting Generations, an organization focused on mentoring children in schools and throughout the community.
During an informal conversation about nonprofit work, she happened to mention a spreadsheet challenge her organization was having. Michael offered to stop by and take a look — simply as a way to help.
What began as a few minutes helping her understand macros in a spreadsheet led to another small problem: a staff member needed to change a message in the organization's telephone system, but calling the telephone vendor for assistance would have meant an expensive service charge. A few minutes later, that problem was resolved too.
Sometimes what is a small technology problem to one person can be a very real obstacle to an organization working with limited time, staff, and resources.
About a week later, that same executive director reached out about another nonprofit facing difficult funding challenges after missing two grants. The organization had purchased two computers but needed help getting them configured and ready for its staff. Again, the answer was simple: let's see if we can help.
Those two experiences revealed something important. Small community organizations were often doing extraordinary work while navigating very ordinary technology challenges — challenges that could consume scarce dollars, staff time, and attention that were needed elsewhere.
That realization became a practice. MAJ began regularly identifying nonprofit and community organizations and offering technology assistance, training, and guidance without charge. What started with one conversation gradually grew into a continuing commitment to share professional experience with organizations serving their communities.
Today, the Community Engagement Program gives that long-standing practice a name and a structure. The principle behind it remains much the same as it was at the beginning: when experience can make the work of a community organization a little easier, it is worth sharing.
Different missions. A shared commitment to community.
The Community Engagement Program was created with organizations whose work reaches beyond the organization itself — organizations educating, serving, supporting, connecting, and strengthening the people and communities around them.
Nonprofit Organizations
Organizations advancing charitable, educational, social, cultural, and community-focused missions.
Community Organizations
Local organizations and initiatives working directly with people and neighborhoods.
Educational Organizations
Schools, learning programs, and organizations helping people build knowledge, skills, and opportunity.
Faith-Based Organizations
Churches and other faith-based organizations providing programs, outreach, and services within their communities.
The organizations may be different. The desire to make a difference is not.
CEP is less about the type of organization than the work happening inside it. We value organizations where people are using their time, talent, and resources to improve lives and strengthen communities.
MAJ Technology Solutions selects organizations for participation based on the spirit of the program, the work they are doing, and where a focused contribution of technology knowledge or training may be useful.
A few things you may want to know.
If your organization has received an invitation to participate, these are some of the practical questions that often come up before the engagement is scheduled.
No. Community Engagement Program sessions are provided to invited organizations at no charge.
No. There is no requirement to purchase services, enter into a contract, or continue the relationship after the engagement. The purpose of CEP is to provide something useful to the participating organization.
Training sessions and technology consultations may be scheduled for up to two hours, depending on the focus of the engagement and the needs of the organization.
Training sessions are designed for small groups of up to six participants so there is time for interaction, questions, and practical discussion.
Yes. Depending on location and scheduling, engagements may be delivered either on-site or remotely using a platform such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.
Before the engagement, we have a brief planning conversation to understand the organization’s needs and determine where the available time can be most useful. The final focus is agreed upon before the session is scheduled.
If your organization has received an invitation, we’d be glad to continue the conversation.
The next step is simply to connect. We can answer any questions, learn a little more about your organization, and talk through what kind of engagement would be most useful.
